Earliest Meeting: Thursday 8th April 1675
Final Meeting: Thursday 12th April 1677
The small Lincolnshire village of Tathwell is in the East Lindsey district of the county some 3 miles south of Louth. Tathwell Hall was owned by the Chaplin family for a considerable time, initially by Sir Francis Chaplin, and then by his son John, who married Elizabeth Hamby, daughter of Sir John Hamby, in 1657. Today the village boasts an association with the Cadwell Park motor racing circuit, just 2 miles south of the village, but in the late 17th century the village held horse races. On Thursday 8th April 1675 the Lincolnshire Plate for £40 was contested over a course laid out on the outskirts of the village, although there is no further record of racing being staged there it was announced at the time of the inaugural race that they 'would ensue for the next two years with even greater values'. This would suggest that further meetings were held on Thursday 13th April 1676 and Thursday 12th April 1677.
